Scientific & Chemical (SciChem to many) the market leader in science education equipment has just gone “live” with e-procurement with two UK local authorities.
The company upgraded its main company website www.scichem.com in September 2006 to include full punch-out compliance ready for UK local authorities implementing various e-procurement projects with @UKplc.
Online sales are up 70% so far compared to a year ago.
There are dozens of local authorities developing similar systems with @UK, as well as Zanzibar and other providers.
Further and Higher Education, University and NHS projects are also coming on stream in the first half of 2007.

E-procurement allows local authority buyers to “punch-out” from their portal to approved supplier websites, build up an order on the supplier website in the normal way to the check-out stage.
This order is then imported into the local authority site, authorised and the approved purchase order is then sent via the secure website to Scientific & Chemical.
The next stages of e-procurement include electronic invoicing and payment.
E-procurement is part of a major UK central and local government drive to reduce buying costs and introduce paperless trading.
