SciChem 2009 raises £7,000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice
The annual SciChem event took place in June at the Clarendon Suites in Birmingham. The was an exhibition with over 40 stands showing a wide range of products from our 3 catalogues, 21 different seminars covering topics from Health and Safety, fun physics experiments, spectrometry, forensics, waste management amongst many others and a key note speech by John Booth, Birmingham LA Science Advisor. Over 500 delegates from all over the UK attended and were able to take part in up to 4 training seminars each day.

The fundraising activities included a raffle with prizes donated by many of our exhibitors, our event hotel, Aston Villa Football Club and Scientific and Chemical too. We held a sealed bid auction where catalogue products were generously donated by our exhibitors and delegates were able to enter a secret sealed bid with the highest bid at the end of the event winning the item. All monies raised from these activities were donated to Acorns Children’s Hospice.

A Gala dinner was held for Scientific and Chemical staff, lecturers and exhibitors and part of the fun on the evening was a charity casino. SciChem funded the casino and all money from this was again donated to Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Members of the SciChem team will shortly visit Acorns Children’s Hospice in Walsall to present them with a cheque for £7,000.
